Hotel Attersee, Austria 2010
Invited competition
In collaboration with Gustav Pichelmann, Atelier Pichelmann, Vienna
Collaborators: Marina Stoyanova, Berlin; Thomas Busch, Vienna.
A former trade union hotel with a spectacular view of the lake, purchased by a group of private investors, was to be adapted to a 5 Star Hotel. The already intensively developed slope could not suffer and further buildings, nevertheless, as is quite common for competitions, the participating architects were expected to perform miracles while observing all environmental constraints.
Besides the merging of the rather small bedrooms to units double the size at the upper levels and the clearing up of various "historical layers" that lack any architectural merit, the design followed the concept of constructing wooden houses along the lake, a local tradition. The result was to be expected.
