This monograph on the Swedish National Insurance Institute, Riksförsäkringsanstalten, located in the center of Stockholm and designed by Sigurd Lewerentz (1928−1932), documents the design history as well as its exemplary renovation in 2016.
Lewerentz' design started with the idea of an Italianate palazzo, however, ultimately realizing an office building whose external austerity was derived from neoclassical ideals, and whose internal language is an essentialized, modern abstraction of this neoclassical ideal.
