Hombroich spaceplacelab Quarter No. 10, 2003-

The structure of the Quarter is understood as a successive extension of the existing settlements (especially the village of Gruissem to the South) but also as a connection between the adjacent developments (Quarter Herzog and Quarter Nishikawa).

A typological constant is the use of the courtyard: the individual buildings and their assembly as a group as well as the contextual structure of the quarter follow this type.

Accordingly there are smaller, medium and larger courtyard structures that can all accommodate mixed uses. Of particular importance is the immediate connection to the landscape as well as the private visual relation to it.

The peripheral development permits the largest possible expansion of the landscape. All buildings are to be served via geothermal systems so that they largely become self-sufficient in terms of warm water production and space heating.
